SAÉ 1, “Who Am I?”, dives into the concept of identity in Grade 7 under the Quebec Culture and Citizenship program.

Students discuss what defines them, solve a fictional character’s problem regarding personal identity, and explore diverse perspectives on how appearance influences self-perception.

A final slideshow activity highlights the richness of individual differences. Grounded in health and well-being, and the cross-curricular competency “Achieving One’s Potential,” this SAÉ helps learners cultivate a deeper understanding of themselves and others and their communities.

“Cell Phones at School and at Home” invites students to examine how smartphones affect identity and behavior.

Through a survey, discussions, and establishing a code of conduct, they discover the pervasive nature of technology and its positive and negative impacts. This module showcases socialization across primary and secondary cultures while developing the competency “Using Information and Communications Technologies.” A concluding debate challenges learners to question whether a smartphone-free life is possible, spurring a broad awareness of technology’s role.

“Outlier Groups” explores the dynamics of belonging and each person’s place within social circles.

Students identify different levels of peer pressure, analyze fictional case studies on group influence, and create scales related to marginalization and conformity. The SAÉ concludes with creating a poster about exclusion, based on a survey of stereotypes encountered at school or online. Tied to the “Media” broad area of learning and the “Using Creative Thinking” competency, this module fosters a better understanding and respect for diversity.
