Dive into "Advertising and Society: Decoding Quebec Advertisements," a Learning and Evaluation Situation (LES) designed for Secondary 4 students as part of the Quebec Culture and Citizenship program.

From the start, "Ad Culture," students are invited to analyze the impact of advertisements on our perception of reality, sparking a debate on their pervasive influence. The first task, "How to Sell to Quebecers?", leads them to explore the cultural specifics of Quebec through the reading of significant excerpts, enabling an informed deliberation on the persuasion techniques adapted to the Quebec context.

 

The second task, "The Ideal Slogan," offers an analysis of the evolution of advertising in Quebec, providing a historical and critical perspective on advertising strategies and their adaptation to cultural and societal changes. The third task deepens this reflection by examining what advertisements reveal about our times and culture, encouraging students to decode representations of sexuality, subcultures, as well as popular and mass cultures.

 

The final task, a critical analysis of an advertising campaign, allows students to apply their critical judgment by evaluating the effectiveness and ethical impact of a specific Quebec advertisement. This reflection process leads them to understand advertising not only as a commercial tool but also as a mirror of our cultural and social values.

 

This LES offers a fascinating exploration of how advertisements interact with culture and citizenship, equipping Secondary 4 students with the necessary tools to become informed consumers and critical citizens.

"Advertising and Society" is an indispensable educational journey to decipher the codes of our consumerist society and understand its cultural underpinnings.
