Dive into the world of "A Book Club Like No Other," a captivating Learning and Evaluation Situation (LES) from the Quebec Culture and Citizenship program for Secondary 4, developed by Dokoma Editions.

This LES, deeply rooted in the media domain and promoting the transversal skill of cooperation, opens a space for dialogue and reflection on Indigenous cultures, a subject both rich and essential in the QCC curriculum.

At the heart of this educational experience is the goal of demystifying myths and realities surrounding Indigenous peoples, inviting students to question the widely held stereotypes about these cultures. Through a series of carefully designed tasks, participants are encouraged to analyze excerpts from Indigenous works, thus offering an authentic window into the thoughts, feelings, and actions shared by the Indigenous communities of Quebec.

The first task, "Let the One Who Knows Most Speak!", serves as an introduction to the critical analysis of Indigenous works, allowing students to immerse themselves directly in these cultures. It is followed by open and thoughtful discussions on misconceptions and stereotypes under the theme "I Have Certainties. Do I Really Need to Change Them?", challenging preconceptions and encouraging the youth to embrace a more nuanced and informed perspective.

The third task, "I'm Going to War Against Stereotypes. How Do I Arm Myself?", invites students to identify and deconstruct stereotypes through excerpts of fake texts and interviews, enhancing their ability to recognize and criticize the erroneous representations of Indigenous peoples.

The final task transforms the classroom into "A Book Club Like No Other," where students organize a reading circle to share their comments or create online reading sheets. This moment of sharing constitutes the culmination of the LES, consolidating learnings and promoting deep engagement with the studied materials.

"A Book Club Like No Other" is an invitation to explore and celebrate the diversity and richness of Quebec's Indigenous cultures, equipping Secondary 4 QCC students with the necessary tools to become informed, respectful, and engaged citizens. Join this journey of discovery and acknowledgment of Indigenous voices, an essential pillar of our collective cultural heritage.
