The first workbook of the Stairway to English collection is specifically designed for struggling fifth-grade students in learning the English language.

It focuses on the theme of the environment and addresses key skills such as understanding texts, writing and producing texts, and oral communication.

  • Unit 1 of this workbook, entitled "THE ENVIRONMENT (Reinvesting the understanding of texts)", focuses on ESL competency 2: "Reinvesting the understanding of texts", students are invited to listen, read, and/or view texts, construct meaning, and represent understanding of the text.
  • Unit 2, "THE ENVIRONMENT (Writing and producing texts)" focuses on ESL competency 3: "Writing and producing texts", students use a personalized response process, a personalized production process and build a personal inventory of writing and production resources.
  • Unit 3, "THE ENVIRONMENT (Interacting orally)" focuses on ESL competency 1: "Interacting orally in English" students learn how to initiate, react to, maintain, and end oral interaction, construct meaning of the message and expand their personal language repertoire.

The Stairway to English workbooks are interactive, students can write in them and teachers can easily correct them online. Audio recordings from the collection are integrated into the pages and PDF pages can be downloaded.

 

These interactive digital resources are optimized for use with interactive whiteboards in class and online learning. Students can write in the workbook and the teacher can correct them online.
