The first workbook of the Stairway to English collection is specifically designed for struggling fifth-grade students in learning the English language.
It focuses on the theme of the environment and addresses key skills such as understanding texts, writing and producing texts, and oral communication.
- Unit 1 of this workbook, entitled "THE ENVIRONMENT (Reinvesting the understanding of texts)", focuses on ESL competency 2: "Reinvesting the understanding of texts", students are invited to listen, read, and/or view texts, construct meaning, and represent understanding of the text.
- Unit 2, "THE ENVIRONMENT (Writing and producing texts)" focuses on ESL competency 3: "Writing and producing texts", students use a personalized response process, a personalized production process and build a personal inventory of writing and production resources.
- Unit 3, "THE ENVIRONMENT (Interacting orally)" focuses on ESL competency 1: "Interacting orally in English" students learn how to initiate, react to, maintain, and end oral interaction, construct meaning of the message and expand their personal language repertoire.
