Introduction to the LES "Everyday EcoGuide in Action": An Immersion in Ecological Transition.

Within the framework of the "Culture and Quebec Citizenship" program, aimed at 5th and 6th-grade primary students, the Learning and Evaluation Situation (LES) "Everyday EcoGuide in Action" offers an innovative pedagogical approach to raise young people's awareness of the importance of ecological transition. This unique LES provides a deep dive into the main concepts of ecological transition, from environmental movements to environmental groups and activism, highlighting the diversity of environmental claims and the actions of citizen movements.

Links to the Curriculum and Developed Skills

Incorporated into the general domain of "Environment and Consumption" training, this LES aims to develop an essential cross-curricular competence in students: the implementation of their creative thinking. Through various activities, students are led to understand the stakes of ecological transition and to reflect on the collective future choices available to our society.

Activity Overview

  • Introduction: Voice of the Earth: This initial activity engages students with a fun quiz on environmental movements, familiarizing them with the various current ecological claims.

  • Task 1: Green Links: Students explore the connections between different ecological causes and the actions of ecological movements, thus developing their ability to establish connections and justify their choices.

  • Task 2: What Should We Do?: Through listening to a podcast and reading texts on environmental groups, students analyze and discuss the recommendations proposed for better environmental management.

  • Task 3: For a Green School!: Students create a list of environmental recommendations for their school's administration, inspired by solutions proposed by environmental groups for a tangible local impact.

  • Final Task: EcoClub: In culmination of the LES, students are invited to design an environmental association within their school, applying their learning for concrete and sustainable action.
