Jean Racine

Jean Racine (1639-1699) was a French playwright and poet from a family of small notables from La Ferté-Milon and an early orphan. He received a literary and religious education. He chooses to pursue a career in tragic theatre. The success of his play Alexander the Great secured him the support of the young King Louis XIV.
